Candy Lines In-Depth Review and Guide
Game mechanics and objective
Candy Lines takes the slow, calculated pacing of chess and swaps out rooks and bishops for gumdrops and lollipops. The board is small but the thinking is not. You slide one candy at a time into an open square, hunting for a chance to line up three matching pieces in a row, and that row has to be straight: horizontal, vertical, or diagonal all count. Line them up and they pop, clearing space. Fail to plan ahead, though, and the board fills in fast, since fresh candies keep dropping into random spots after every move you make.
Controller & Keyboard Guide
There's no keyboard involved here at all, so anyone worried about memorizing hotkeys can relax. Everything runs through the mouse, or a fingertip if you're playing on a touchscreen. You just click, or tap, the candy piece you want, then click or tap the empty square you want it to travel to. There's a catch though, the game moves it like a chess piece, meaning it needs a clear path to actually get there. If something's blocking the way, that move simply isn't happening, so a chunk of the challenge is really just figuring out which candies can physically reach where you need them. It sounds simple on paper, and it kind of is, but the restriction changes how you plan every single turn.
Score-Boosting Tactics
- Keep at least two escape routes open for your most useful candies before you commit to a move.
- Watch the edges of the board closely, corner pieces get stuck behind blockers more often than people expect.
- Try setting up two near-complete lines at once so a single move can potentially trigger a bigger clear.
- Don't rush toward the first match you spot, sometimes waiting one extra turn opens up a cleaner line elsewhere.
- Pay attention to where new candies tend to spawn, since predicting that helps you avoid getting boxed in later.
- Clear the busiest, most cluttered rows first rather than chasing whichever match looks easiest in the moment.
